The Woodstone Residence offers both individuals and families some respite from the effects of eating disorders. It is a therapeutic home-away-from-home where young people and their families may find support, and where treatment is always geared toward reintegrating individuals into their home communities and normal lives.
Woodstone targets a group of people whose eating disorders have progressed to the point where they can no longer function in daily life, but who are physiologically stable and may benefit from intensive therapeutic approaches including individual, group and family therapy; psychiatry; and complementary modalities. People may come to Woodstone following involvement with community-based or outpatient services, which may not meet their needs, or after inpatient hospitalization to provide an intermediate level of care with relatively high structure, which allows them to solidify gains made while in hospital and to plan carefully for successful re-integration into their home communities.
Residential care at Woodstone offers both individuals and families some respite from the effects of eating disorders. Young people can look forward to a break from the chaos and torment of anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, or EDNOS. Families and caregivers can rest assured that their loved ones are being welcomed into an environment that is both caring and professional, allowing them a pause from the overwhelming pressure of supporting a loved one struggling with an eating disorder, and an opportunity to regroup and learn new strategies for assisting and facilitating long term recovery.
For some people, breaking the eating disorder cycle may require accessing more intensive services than are available in their local communities, and/or distancing themselves temporarily from the setting in which the disorder flourishes. Woodstone can provide a safe and supportive environment in which to challenge the power of an eating disorder; identify the factors that compel restricting, bingeing, purging and/or over-exercising; and learn how to resist using destructive behaviours to cope with daily life.
The Woodstone Residence offers a therapeutic home-away-from-home where young people and their families may find support, and where treatment is always geared toward reintegrating individuals into their home communities and normal lives. Woodstone provides a chance for people suffering from eating disorders to temporarily join a new community—both within the residence itself and on Galiano Island more generally—and to remain connected via telehealth to local resources in preparation for their ultimate return.
